The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation will not be deterred by the grave omissions and errors in the Final Regulations on Federal Acknowledgement of Indian Tribes. In January of 2004, the United States Department of Interior issued a Final Determination supporting Federal Recognition of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation.

He was listed as a retired farmer, living just with wife Ruth, now 64. Ruth died in 1890 and Thomas in 1897, aged 90. They are both buried in Saginaw. On June 15, 2015.
